Frequently Asked Questions

What size joist is the HHUS28-2Z designed to support?

The HHUS28-2Z is designed for a nominal joist size of Double 2x8, making it suitable for applications requiring support of doubled-up 2x8 joists, rafters, or beams.

What is ZMAX galvanization and why does it matter?

ZMAX galvanization is a heavy-duty coating that provides extra corrosion resistance compared to standard galvanization. This makes the HHUS28-2Z particularly well-suited for exterior applications and installations involving treated wood, where moisture and chemical exposure can accelerate corrosion.

How does double-shear nailing improve performance?

Double-shear nailing distributes the load through two points on each joist nail rather than one, resulting in greater overall strength. This design also allows for the use of fewer nails and faster installation while still achieving a secure connection using standard 16d common nails.

Are there any installation precautions to be aware of?

Yes - it is important that you do not bend or remove the tabs on the HHUS28-2Z during installation. The hanger is installed with 16d common nails, and maintaining the integrity of the tabs ensures the hanger performs as designed.
